Hints & Kinks - The Page

A call for extra help or the second rig is needed.

In an average year the pagers are set off to request extra help or for the second ambulance to respond to a call about 30 times. Many times a crew member(s) with a radio will respond. This is so the primary crew (for extra help) or Dispatch (for the second ambulance) knows someone is coming. Don't let the radios keep you from coming to help! The accepted practice is that the first crew member(s) to arrive that fulfill the need of the page will go on the call. Then any others that are still arriving are asked to back off realizing that their efforts are much appreciated. It is better to have too many than too few to help.

What do do if you don't have a second crew member

  • Ask Dispatch to page for additional crew members to meet you at the garage
  • Ask Dispatch to page for additional crew members to meet you on scene
  • You may also ask Dispatch to request Mutual Aid so another service is dispatched (they can also meet you on scene)

Firefighter EMT

There are about four firefighters that are also EMT's. If you have paged for additional EMT's and get no response you may try asking Dispatch to page specifically for a Firefighter EMT. Sometimes they could be listening on their fire department pager but not their ambulance pager.

Two EMSRB licensed EMT's are required to transport a patient
